Public Entity Saba Newsletter May 2017

The latest government information services bulletin for Saba is available on their government website.

One of the highlights is the announcement of the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport as the 2017 winner of PrivateFly’s “Most Scenic Landing” Poll. Out of a list of over 122 airports, the Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport came in first place. The award ceremony took place last June. With coverage of the Top 10 Most Scenic Airport Landings already being covered in online outlets such as CNN, the Telegraph and Travel and Leisure, Saba and Juancho E. Yrausquin is sure to receive positive notice for this special award.

Hurricane Season
Every year, the Public Entity and its safety partners try to improve the islands’ preparedness for hurricanes. The Public Entity has also distributed, before the start of the hurricane season, a new brochure on how to prepare for a possible hurricane. Furthermore, you can download the “disasterprep Saba” application via Android and IOS stores.

Saba Sports
The Fit Park Saba was formally opened by Lt. Governor Jonathan Johnson. The park offers outdoor fitness equipment that is free to use for all, at a time that suits you. The park is an initiative of the Public Health Department, to promote easy, accessible and safe exercise.

Social Affairs
Commissioner Wilson believes that every child deserves to have all their basic needs met, so when he got the call from the State Secretary Jetta Klijnsma, he was very pleased to hear about the new subsidy regulation called “Opportunities For All Children (Kansen Voor Alle Kinderen).”
After hearing about this great opportunity, he then started working closely with our schools, daycares and after school programs to get a sense of what our children need and to start getting the stakeholders familiarized and involved.
