No new commander for Voluntary Corps St. Maarten (VKS)

FRIDAY, 15 FEBRUARY 2013

MADAME ESTATE–The establishment of a management foundation for Voluntary Corps St. Maarten VKS is being finalised and will have as one of its first tasks the appointment of a new VKS commander to replace Commander Jean Illidge, who will be on pension.

Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams told the press Wednesday that she had “deferred” the appointment of Illidge’s successor to the board of the foundation and in the interim, Acting Commander Paul Marten with the VKS management would oversee the Corps’ operations.

The VKS management foundation is required by law to be in place. The proposed board members have already been identified and will be vetted by the Corporate Governance Council. Two board members have been suggested by government and three by justice agencies as stipulated by the VKS foundation law.

One of the proposed board members is police officer Tony Rogers, who also has been suggested as a possible successor to Commander Illidge.
