21 May 2017

WILLEMSTAD – Fire broke out this morning at the Isla oil refinery in Curaçao on Sunday about 5:40am and was contained some three and a half hours later. There were no victims.

Several fire brigades on the island provided assistance. The blaze occurred for as yet unknown reasons in one of the three refining units.

Large black clouds could be seen in areas near the plant. According to local authorities, the smoke was not a risk for the population, including those living directly downwind.
